| Session for Veterinarians and Vet Students - Saturday February 12, 2011 |
Again this year, Empire Alpaca Association will be bringing in leading camelid veterinarians to conduct a day of alpaca health seminars for veterinarians and vet students. This year, Dr. Walter Bravo, Dr. Ruthanne McCaslin and Dr. Ed McCaslin will be our speakers for the veterinarian sessions. The vet session will be held at The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Syracuse, NY on Saturday February 12, 2011. Registration must be done online; no walk-ins please.
This years focus will be primarily on reproduction. Dr. Bravo is one of the leading camelid reproductive vets in the WORLD. He travels extensively to South America and has done a great deal of research on camelids. Most of the afternoon will be spent on case studies with live ultrasounds. Dr. Ruthanne McCaslin and Dr. Ed McCaslin are well known in the alpaca community, especially for their research on Chorioptic mites. Besides being veterinarians, they are also alpaca owners.
This year we have added something extra for the vets who want to participate: a working lunch session with Jim Daniels, a tax accountant and CPA. This session is only open to vets and vets students and will cover tax issues that affect vets. This is a great opportunity to obtain tax advice from a tax accountant who has professional partnerships, sole proprietorships, LLCs, agricultural as well as corporate tax and accounting clients. Vets who do not wish to attend this working lunch will dine in the dining room of the hotel with the owner/breeders.
As with 2010, the vet sessions will be on Saturday and will be going on at the same time as the Empire Alpaca Symposium and Fleece Event which runs Saturday and Sunday with many educational seminars, fleece competitions and workshops. (Visit the Symposium page of the Empire web site for more information on this event.) Vets who register for the vet session may only attend the vet seminars; they may not attend the other sessions that will be going on concurrently. Again, this year we will be permitting owner/breeders to attend the vet sessions if they wish to observe the sessions; however, to maintain the presentations and discussions at the level appropriate for veterinarians, owner/breeders will not be permitted to ask questions during the sessions.
The vet session will start at 8:30AM and lunch will be provided. Classes will end around 6PM. There will be a $75 fee for veterinarians; there is no charge for vet students but if you sign up, please make sure you will be attending.
Thank you for all you do for us!
