Session for Veterinarians and Vet Students - Saturday February 20, 2010
Again this year, Empire Alpaca Association will be bringing in a leading camelid veterinarian to conduct a day of alpaca health seminars for veterinarians and vet students. This year, Dr. Chris Cebra, of Oregon State Vet School, will be the lead speaker at the all-day event. Dr. Steve Hull, an alpaca owner, will also be a speaker. The session will be held at The Holiday Inn in Albany, NY on Saturday February 20, 2010. Registration must be done online; no walk-ins please.

This year’s focus will be primarily on internal medicine. Dr. Cebra is one of the leading internal medicine camelid vets in the country and is the leading camelid expert in the country on coccidia, so we will definitely have him cover Eimeria Macusaniensis. Dr. Cebra has also been doing work on Haemonchus Contortus (Barber Pole worm) and will cover that in his sessions as well.

In prior years we had the vet session on Fridays. This year, due to cost constraints, we have eliminated all of our Friday activities. The vet session will be going on at the same time as the Empire Alpaca Symposium and Fleece Event which runs Saturday and Sunday with many educational seminars, fleece competitions and workshops. (Visit the Symposium page of the Empire web site for more information on this event.) Vets who register for the vet session may only attend the vet seminars; they may not attend the other sessions that will be going on concurrently. This year we will be permitting owner/breeders to attend the vet sessions if they wish to observe the sessions; however, to maintain the presentations and discussions at the level appropriate for veterinarians, owner/breeders will not be permitted to ask questions during the sessions.

The vet session will start at 8:30AM and lunch will be provided. Classes will end around 5PM. There will be a $50 fee for veterinarians; there is no charge for vet students but if you sign up, please make sure you will be attending.

Thank you for all you do for us!
